What is the difference between website maintenance and Website Stewardship?

Website Stewardship goes further. Alongside caring for your website, we:

The short answer is no.
Some websites need reliable maintenance, while other websites play an active role in the business, needing stewardship.
We advise you on which option you’ll benefit from most and advise accordingly.
Why should a website continue changing after it has launched?
It should not change simply for the sake of changing.
But your business, customers, services, content and digital environment can evolve after launch. Over time, evidence may show that something is unclear, a customer journey could be easier, important information has changed, or there is an opportunity to improve the website.
Stewardship provides a structured way to identify and respond to those changes instead of waiting several years for the next major rebuild.
Does Stewardship mean you will make changes to my website every month?
Not necessarily.
Observation is as important as intervention. If there is no meaningful reason to change something, leaving it alone can be the right decision.
Website Stewardship is not about manufacturing monthly tasks to justify a retainer. It is about maintaining responsibility for your website and prioritising improvements when the evidence supports them.
Can I start with maintenance and move to Stewardship later (and vice versa)?
You absolutely can, but we do advise you ask about the Post-Launch Optimisation package.
Your website’s needs can change as the business grows and as more useful evidence becomes available. Our Post-Launch Optimisation package is 3 months long and identifies how your users interact with your website, identifies user journey improvements, and determines which support option best fits your business.
As your business changes, we can switch your support package based on your needs.
This works best after a minimum of 3 months to evaluate if a support package is sufficient for your needs.
